Gynecomastia - an excess of volume within the male chest, which may resemble a woman's breast shape. Treatment consists of surgical excision of the gland and removal of adipose tissue by means of liposuction.
Gynecomastia can be caused by two reasons:
Both problems can occur simultaneously. Both may have a genetic basis but also results from street drugs and alcohol.
Gynecomastia can occur and persist for some time during the period of growth and puberty, and the effects of hormones. For most men, it will disappear after reaching adulthood.
There are several types of Gynecomastia: glandular hyperplasia, and pseudogynecomastia as an excess of adipose tissues.
The best candidate for gynecomastia surgery:
METHODS OF TREATMENT
Liposuction
Is performed to remove excess fat. It requires two small incisions, approximately 3 mm wide to facilitate the insertion of the cannula at the both sides of nipple area. Laser liposuction will be a particularly good method - its advantages are high effectiveness of the procedure, minimal trauma and strong skin contraction in the treated area.
Surgical excision of the gland
Aiming to remove a larger part of the gland, leaving the shape of the nipples unchanged.
The procedure is performed with a small incision on the edge of the nipple area with a half-round shape, with a width of typically 1 to 2 cm. After the treatment we will put stitches to be removed after 7-10 days.
The procedure is often performed by athletes - boxers, bodybuilders. It removes the source of pain and prevents the growth of the gland by taking steroids. If necessary, the removed tissues can be given for examination by a histopathological laboratory.
Preparation for the procedure
Ambulatory Care
Having this procedure is possible upon your arrival without staying in the clinic overnight. The procedure takes from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Immediately right after gynecomastia surgery you will be requested first to rest in the recovery room. Then have an post-op consulation with the Doctor and go home after.
Anesthesia
This procedure is performed under the local anesthesia, means the anesthesia is administered directly to the surgical area. Oral and intravenous anesthesia may be applied complementay for a shallow sedative effect.
What to expect after the treatment
It is common for the affected area to be swollen and tender after gynecomastia surgery. Do not be concerned as this will subside with time. One side of the chest might be swollen, this can be common, do not worry. After a few months, the scars will become invisible.
Care after the procedure
Compression garment - is highly recommended after both gland removal and liposuction, and the time of use is three to six weeks.
Manual lymphatic drainage - is a type of massage that helps encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues that will be conducted by a Licensed Physiotherapist.
